His duties consisted of flying staff officers of the 9th Australia Division, later 5th Australia Division over their forward troop positions, and enabling them to make reconnaissance of enemy territory beyond their troop positions. During this period with only meagre facilities and practically no assistance he carried out all the maintanence of his aircraft."
